Sunsari. The lack of equipment to detect drug use and intoxication in the district has made it difficult for security personnel to work.
Superintendent of Police of the District Police Office, Suman Kumar Timalsina, said that a team including health workers from the Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office, Traffic Police and Police Hospital is conducting regular patrols to take action against drug users and intoxication in the district.
He informed that action was taken against 732 people who were driving while intoxicated and 43 people who were driving while intoxicated from Shrawan to Poush of the financial year 2080/81.
During that period, Nine vehicle accidents occurred while driving. “Most of them have been found to be drug addicts and alcoholics who have gone to the Indian border,” said Superintendent of Police Timalsina. According to him, more than 400,000 rupees in revenue has been collected from drug addicts and alcoholics during that period. “We have launched an awareness campaign to discourage drug addicts and alcoholics,” he said.
