‘Wrestling players have had to take refuge in training centers for other sports,’ said coach Chand. ‘We are currently training in the morning and evening.’ Players from Kanchanpur have won the most medals in taekwondo, but he says that a training center has not been built for them.
The District Sports Development Committee has stated that although a budget of Rs. 1 million was received from the Sudurpaschim Province government for the construction of a wrestling training center in the last fiscal year, Rs. 300,000 has been ‘frozen’. He also said that there is no budget allocation in the current fiscal year.
Gopal Dutta Bhatta, Office Chief of the District Sports Development Committee, Kanchanpur, said that due to lack of budget, a training room for wrestling could not be constructed. Bhatta said, ‘The players have had to face problems in practice due to lack of a training room.’ He said that efforts are being made to allocate budget for this in the budget of the upcoming fiscal year.
District Sports Development Committee member Bikash Mahata said that appropriate infrastructure is necessary for producing players. He said, ‘Good players are being produced in sports including cricket, wrestling and football in Kanchanpur, and infrastructure construction is necessary.’
