Mountain. The clock tower constructed at Kushmabazar, the district headquarters of Parbat, for attracting domestic and foreign tourists has been lying unused for the past two years.
The clock tower constructed at Banjiside of Ward No. 5 under the pride scheme of Kusma Municipality has not been completed. The clock tower constructed at a cost of Rs 8 million of the municipality has been kept in key, while the outer structures are becoming dilapidated.
Bam Bahadur Pun, a local entrepreneur, said the clock tower built to attract tourists was useless. The structure has been built much lower than the house around the clock tower. The construction of the structure, which started from the budget of the fiscal year 2077/78 BS, had been controversial even before it was built.
Kushma-5 ward chair Ramhari Chapagain said they did not have all the information as the people’s representatives elected in the previous term had constructed the project. Although the construction was completed two years ago, the tower has been locked, he said.
Kushma Municipality Mayor Ram Chandra Joshi said the ghantaghar would be completed from the next year’s budget. Deputy Mayor Swasthani Rijal stressed the need of bringing the structures constructed within the city into operation on time as it is the responsibility of the city to preserve and bring them into operation.
Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality, Netra Prasad Poudel, said that there was no discussion on how to operate the clock tower as there was no new plan for the operation. According to him, the construction of the clock tower was completed and payment was made last year and the watch used in it could not be used as it was not available in Nepal.
Shishir Poudel, a local, said that the attraction of tourists would increase if the clock tower near the world’s second tallest bungee and the world’s longest Superman style jeep line in Kushma, which is becoming a hub of adventure tourism, could be completed in time.
