Koshi Tourism Year: Provincial government joins in promotion

Kathmandu. The Koshi Provincial Government has decided to celebrate this year as ‘Koshi Tourism Year’ and is carrying out promotional activities to promote tourism. The provincial government had announced that this year would be celebrated as a tourism year in the policy and program and budget of the current fiscal year and allocated a budget.

The provincial government has formed a Tourism Year Steering Committee under the chairmanship of Sadananda Mandal, Minister for Tourism, Forest and Environment of the provincial government, and has been conducting various programs. Under this, two groups are currently being formed and promotional programs are being conducted in various places in the country. Tourism Year Steering Committee member Basudev Baral informed that promotional activities are being conducted to promote the province’s tourist destinations through the ‘Destination Introductory Visit for Domestic and Foreign Media Persons’ and ‘Road Show’ programs.

Under the tourist destination tour program, 17 journalists from India, including Nepal, are visiting the province’s tourist destinations, and introductory and promotional programs are being conducted through road shows in various places in the country under the leadership of Tourism Year Steering Committee member Rajan Dangal. Stating that the tour program that began on Friday will continue until Monday, Baral mentioned that 17 journalists, including one from Nepal, one from Sikkim, four from Bihar, and three from West Bengal, are participating in the identification, observation, and promotion of tourist destinations.

According to Baral, a member of the steering committee, so far, places including Ramdhuni Temple in Sunsari, Barahakshetra, Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, various religious and natural heritages and monasteries in Dharan, Orange City in Dhankuta, and Chotlung Park in Laligurras Municipality in Tehrathum have been visited. “Dhankuta’s Orange City has been built by combining two toles. Since oranges are grown in abundance, Orange City was built with the aim of encouraging orange farmers and promoting tourism,” he said.

Baral, who is also the general secretary of the Hotel Business Federation, Koshi Province, will visit places including Mundum Trail and Halesi Temple in Bhojpur today. Stating that various programs are being organized with the aim of promoting the tourism year and tourist destinations, he informed that the goal is to attract domestic and foreign tourists to the province this year.

Meanwhile, road show programs have been taking place in various places in the country since Asad 11 under the leadership of committee member Dangal. Stating that the program will continue till Ashad 17, Dangal informed that two programs have been completed so far in Kathmandu, two in Lalitpur, one in Pokhara, one in Narayangadh and one in Hetauda. According to him, a budget of Rs 100 million was allocated under tourism, forest and environment in the current fiscal year. Baral informed that the provincial government has allocated a budget of Rs 100 million for the tourism year in the policy and program and budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

‘Out of that, Rs 44.7 million will be spent by the ministry on tourism infrastructure construction, identification of tourist places and other areas. The remaining amount will be spent through the private sector working on tourism,’ he said.
