Belbari. The Koshi Province government is organizing a two-day investment conference in the provincial capital Biratnagar from today. Businessmen are excited, saying that this conference will help create an investment environment here.

This province has been viewed as the backbone of Nepal’s economy due to its unlimited potential for natural heritage, production, income and employment, and strategic location. Businessmen believe that the investment conference will provide a golden opportunity for investment in the sectors of agriculture, tourism, hydropower and industrial development in the province, which stretches from the lap of Mount Everest to the fertile land of the Terai. Businessmen say that the conference has brought enthusiasm to the region that has been devastated by COVID-19.

Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry Koshi Province President Rajendra Raut says that the conference has brought enthusiasm to the entire private sector. He believes that the investment environment created through the conference will not only lead to the economic revival of Koshi but also lay the foundation for the prosperity of Nepal as a whole.

‘The economy is sluggish. The investment situation is not improving. Businessmen are in a state of despair. The conference being held at this time will definitely convey hope,’ says Chairman Raut. ‘Establishing a permanent dialogue platform to resolve administrative hassles, delays, market access and land availability problems, supporting small entrepreneurs in marketing, and developing the skills of youth are the main priorities of the private sector. It is believed that there will be a comprehensive discussion on this issue at the conference.’

Pavan Kumar Sharda, Chairman of the Koshi Province of the Confederation of Nepal Industries, also hopes that the investment conference to be held from Thursday will make the sluggish business sector dynamic. He said that they are excited that the state is taking the initiative to solve the current problems and listening to the business community.

Business people are more excited after the provincial government mentioned at a press conference held in Biratnagar on Wednesday that it would be sourcing 71 projects worth Rs 173.49 billion at the investment summit.

Which include sectors such as agriculture, tourism, energy, industry, infrastructure, information technology. Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Authority, Dr. Saroj Koirala, informed that more than two dozen projects will be signed during the investment conference.

In addition, in the main session of the first day, experts and public representatives will present their views on the investment-friendly environment and the interrelationship between the three levels of government in the case of Koshi Province, according to the organizer.
