There is a forest of Gurasaigurans on the side of the road to Kori. It becomes colorful and attractive here in spring, and the beautiful flowers blooming in the pastures in June attract everyone.
In ancient times, when the traditional route to Manang and Lamjung via Sikles was in use, Kori was a place for travelers to stay and a pasture for shepherds. It also gained interest and popularity as a route to get salt. Hotelier Hom Gurung said that the number of domestic tourists coming to Kori, which currently has four hotels, has been increasing recently for hiking and vacationing.
‘Kori is a destination where you can view the mountain from its base to its peak,’ he said. ‘The view that the hikers get after coming here, tired due to the steep climb, makes them forget all their fatigue.’ Tourists who have reached Kori via Tasa from Sikles have the option of traveling via the old route, Nauta Hugu- Kapuche-Hugu- Sikles, Thulek-Gurung Deurali-Timang, Thulek-Kholasothar-Karapudada-Yangjakot or Tangting.
Tourism professionals say that this trekking route can also be considered a ‘four-key trek’ as it includes Kori, Kholasothar and Karapudanda along with Kapuche Himalayan Lake. Tourists going on the Kori trek start their journey from Sikles, a tourist village located 41 kilometers from Pokhara.
Tourists coming to Sikles will be able to see the Gurung Museum, Peace Memorial, Sikles Park, mountain views, Gurung temples, original culture, costumes, tableaux, etc., said Devi Jung Gurung, ward chairperson of Madi-1.
He informed that Madi Rural Municipality has prioritized highlighting the tourism potential of Kori. According to him, a feasibility study has been conducted to operate a cable car from Puruyum to Kori along with a public hearing. From Sikles, there is an option to stay in Kapuche or come to Hugu while observing Kapuche Lake, which is located at an altitude of 2,421 meters above sea level in the lap of the Annapurna Himal.
From there, tourists will travel to Kori, he informed. From Kori, you can see the 6,988-meter-high Lamjung Himal, 7,937-meter-high Annapurna II, 6,993-meter-high Machhapuchhre Himal, and 8,156-meter-high Manaslu Himal right in front of your eyes.
Tourist guide Ganga Ghale, who said that Kori trekking is a suitable destination for mountain viewing, mentioned that he has taken many groups of tourists on this trekking route.
‘After coming here, any tourist enjoys seeing the panoramic view of the mountains,’ he said. ‘The main feature here is being able to view the mountains from the base to the top. .’
Says that he was very worried when he saw the mountains that were white until about 10 years ago, but now they are bare, and he recounts the experience of foreign tourists who had previously seen the white mountains coming back to see the mountains bare, crying with worry.
‘There is no snow on the white mountains that were previously visible from here,’ he said. ‘The temperature increase in the Himalayan region has had a great impact in the last 10 years.’ Stating that failure to save the Himalayas will have a serious impact on our tourism, he suggested not to burn plastic products indiscriminately and not to engage in any activities that pollute the environment.
The association’s founding president, Bobarjung Gurung, said that with the aim of promoting trekking in this area, including Koridanda, the association has emphasized the promotion and development of this area as a Gurung heritage trekking route.
He also coordinated the program that was organized by the association and supported by the Nepal Tourism Board, the Ministry of Industry and Tourism of Gandaki Province, and Madi Rural Municipality, from Sikles to Yangjakot via Kapuche, Kori, Kholasothar, Karpudanda, and others in the second week of Poush. .
During the promotional program, he said that Kori and its tourism potential, needs, etc. were identified on the spot, and that it was seen that essential infrastructure including electricity, drinking water, and communication needed to be developed there.
‘Tourism attraction in Kori is increasing,’ he said, ‘It is imperative that the state immediately make arrangements to provide electricity, drinking water, and communication facilities at the place.’
