Baglung. Padam Khatri of Tityang Thapathar, Baglung Municipality-9, was successful in growing 12 kg of cauliflower. Last year, he was awarded as the best farmer in the district by the Agricultural Knowledge Center by growing 9 kg of cauliflower in his own ‘Khatri Agro Farm’.
Khatri, who started vegetable farming from a plastic tunnel in 2066 BS, is currently considered one of the successful farmers in this area. He said, “After being awarded, I worked even harder in cauliflower production. This year, I was successful in growing 12 kg of cauliflower weighing 880 grams.”
He has been cultivating vegetables on 18 ropanis of land. While his friends were migrating for foreign employment, Khatri said that he never thought of going abroad and became an entrepreneur in his village.
Khatri, who is engaged in agricultural work with the idea that he can do something in his own country, has been earning an annual income of 10 to 12 lakhs. Khatri said that he currently sells 10 quintals of cauliflower and broccoli alone. As vegetable farming has flourished, he has been doing commercial vegetable farming by utilizing eight ropanis of rented land and five ropanis of barren land.
Khatri’s farm has eight plastic tunnels, two of which are hi-tech and the other traditional. Khatri said that he was successful with the technical support of the Agricultural Knowledge Center and Baglung Municipality.
