Tanahun. Locals are happy after drinking water taps were installed in every house in Khahare, Bhanu Municipality-3, Tanahun. Locals, who had to wait for hours for a jug of drinking water for a long time, are happy after water started coming from taps installed in every house.

Locals of Khahare, Dordortar and Chipleti, who have been facing the problem of drinking water, say that after the installation of taps in every house, they are no longer forced to carry water bottles and buckets. Nepali Congress central member of the project, Govinda Bhattarai, said that he was happy that the construction was completed after traveling with the villagers for 10 years and visiting various agencies with the aim of providing access to clean drinking water in most parts of Tanahun.

After the completion of the project, drinking water taps were installed in 384 villages including Khahare, and no water problems have been faced. Tikaram Shrestha, chairman of the Chipleti Khahare Mine Water Project, said that local vegetable farming has started after abundant water came.

Here, in the past, 20 households in the same village used to drink water from the same tap, but now one house, one tap has been built and drinking water has been supplied to every house. Shrestha, the chairman of the Drinking Water Consumers Committee, said that water has been brought from Dordor in two tanks with an investment of Rs 25 million by the Division Drinking Water Office, Tanahun.

Dilsara Gurung, a local from Khare, Bhanu Municipality-3, expressed happiness and said that now she does not have to go far to carry water and that it has become easier since water comes to her house.

Similarly, Som Maya Shrestha also said that her long-standing compulsion has been removed after water started coming to her house, saying, ‘We do not have to wait long for water, now everything is easy. I don’t have to go and wait in line for water at night. Now that I have saved time, I have started giving time to the grocery business and have even started earning some money from it.’

Local Apsara Tamang used to have to get up early in the morning and wait in line for hours to get water, but now with water coming to her house, she doesn’t have to face such a problem. ‘Earlier, it was so much in the morning, now we get water quickly,’ she said.

Now that the water distribution system has been organized, it was difficult to get drinking water when the source dries up during the dry season, but now this problem has been solved, said Bhanu Municipality Mayor Ananda Raj Tripathi. The locals are excited to be able to consume drinking water after the water supply has arrived in the village. The Drinking Water Committee has provided free water to organizations, schools, hospitals, senior citizen buildings, and more.
