Kathmandu University hands over pre-school curriculum to National Pabson

Kathmandu. Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) and National Private and Boarding Schools Association Nepal (National PABSON) have formally handed over the pre-school curriculum to National PABSON.

Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel, Dean, Kathmandu University handed over the curriculum to Gita Rana Chhetri, Central President of National PABSON. Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson Chhetri said that pre-schools across the country have been operating in their own style and now the common curriculum will bring equality in education.

“Education should be based on learning and there is a need to move towards digital education,” she said. Stating that the construction of textbooks and syllabus would be started after the curriculum is recorded, she expressed the belief that the collaboration with Kathmandu University would be taken forward in the long run.

Kathmandu University Dean Prof Dr Bal Chandra Luitel said that the main objective of the university is to contribute to the society through knowledge and said that educational institutions should not be limited to degree distribution institutions and should play an inspiring role for social transformation.

“The knowledge we produce should be usable, relevant and able to solve complex challenges of the society,” he said, adding that the curriculum developed in this way is expected to improve the quality of early childhood education. ‘

He stressed the need for Nepal’s education to move beyond the narrow textbook and marks-centric evaluation system towards creative, inclusive and child-friendly learning.

Chief of The Department of Primary Child Education and Vocational Studies under The Kathmandu University School of Education, Dr. Stressing on the importance of collaboration, Parbati Dhungana said curriculum formulation can be effective not only by the work of any one institution, but only through coordination and joint efforts among education scientists, policy makers, school operators and teachers.

“Curriculum making should not only be creative, but also research-based and evidence-supported,” she said, adding, “It is imperative to develop a curriculum incorporating the psychology of learning, social context, local needs and international experience for the overall development of children.” ‘

Stating that early childhood education is the foundation of building the country’s overall educational infrastructure, she said the collaboration between the university and National PABSON has also made the private sector a partner in educational reforms.

Similarly, Former Chairman of National PABSON and Coordinator of Education Policy and Training Commission Karna Bahadur Shahi opined that early childhood education should be strengthened according to more effective, scientific and contemporary needs as the future of Nepal would be built in the classroom.

“The school is not just a place of learning but a cornerstone of citizen building,” he said, adding, “Therefore, it is possible to build a strong generation only through a combination of child-friendly learning environment, qualified teachers, and appropriate curriculum.” Stating that the primary education system has been neglected for a long time, Shahi pointed out the need to give priority to it from policy formulation to implementation.

Former presidents of National PABSON Pandav Hamal and Rituraj Sapkota were also present on the occasion. General Secretary of National PABSON Pratap Thapa conducted the program. Meanwhile, the second plenary meeting of the Central Committee of The National PABSON was held in Kathmandu from March 19 to 28.
