Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) sets dry waste management zone

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started the work of waste management by determining the area to make the dry waste management more systematic. The contract for the sale of dry waste has been awarded at an annual cost of Rs 60.87 million.

Kmc has started dry waste management by determining 32 wards on the basis of population and geography, according to kmc environment management department. THE KMC has divided all the 32 wards into seven zones and awarded the income contract through separate competition in each section. Engineer Ram Prasad Nepal informed that the material recovery facility of area no. 7 has already come into operation.

According to him, the department is preparing to operate gradually in the area. There are 10 wards in this area including ward no. 12, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 27. Dry waste is collected through the Material Recovery Facility. Thirty-two wards have been divided into seven zones for systematic disposal of household waste and to extend the life span of Banchredandan, the last waste management site.

The KMC had issued a public notice calling for the operation of material recovery facility for dry waste management by setting up one waste transfer center in each of these areas. Nepsemac Service Pvt. Ltd. has been selected in the first area. Wards 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 are included in this area.

Practical Waste Solutions Pvt. Ltd. has been given the responsibility in Area No. 2, where ward no. 1, 11, 28, 29 and 30 are included. Creative Sanitation Pvt. Ltd. has made a claim in area no. 3, which includes ward no. 6, 8 and 9. Mechi Poly Industry has taken over the responsibility in Area No. 4. These include ward no. 16, 17 and 26. Nepal Energy Development Company has taken the responsibility of area no. 5 comprising ward no. 13, 14 and 15. Ward no. 10, 31 and 32 are included in the area no. 6. Where Polly Waste Management has been given the responsibility.
