Siraha. Construction of an overpass has begun at Lahanchowk as part of the expansion of the Kanchanpur-Kamala road along the East-West Highway. The China Railway-2 Engineering Group has started the construction of the overpass.
Out of the 86.83-kilometer stretch from Kanchanpur in Saptari to Kamala in Siraha, 62 percent of the work on the 47-kilometer stretch from Balan to Kamala in the western (Siraha) section has been completed. The construction of the overpass has begun with the removal of the martyrs’ memorial at Lahanchowk.
According to Saroj Koirala, Information Officer of the Kanchanpur-Kamala Road Project Western Section (Siraha), two 32-meter-wide overpasses as per international standards will be constructed. The construction of an ‘overpass’ has also begun at Mirchaiya Chowk. Five ‘underpasses’ will be constructed on this road section. An underpass is also being built in Lahan.
The total cost of the project is Rs 15.66 billion 44 thousand 983. A contract has been awarded for the upgradation of 39 kilometers from Kanchanpur to Kushaha in the eastern section of Saptari at a cost of Rs 7.27 billion. He will inform that about 60 percent physical progress has been made in this section.
