JICA Nepal chief’s team inspects Tanahun hydropower project

Tanahun. Tanahun: A team of Chief of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nepal today inspected the 140 MW Tanahun Hydropower Project under construction at Jhaputar of Rishing Rural Municipality-1 in Tanahun district. A team led by JICA Nepal Office Chief Matsuzaki Mizuki inspected the project site and took stock of the progress made so far. JICA has invested in hydropower projects.

The team conducted on-site inspection of the under-construction structures under package-1 and 2 of the project and held discussions with the project chief, the chief of the project supervision consultant, among others. Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari briefed the monitoring team about the progress made so far. Work is underway on three packages of the project. According to Bhandari, 42 under package one, 42. 5 percent progress has been made in the construction of underground power house under package two and 74 percent progress in the construction of transmission line under package 3.

The overall construction of the project is expected to be completed by June 2083 BS. ADB will bear $150 million, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) $184 million, European Investment Bank $85 million and Government of Nepal/Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) $86 million for the total cost of the project (including transmission line, rural electrification and interest for the construction period).
