The office has an annual target of collecting Rs 577.717 crore in revenue. Customs officer Rabinslal Das informed that only 43 percent of the revenue has been collected so far compared to the annual revenue target for the current fiscal year.
According to him, 77.78 percent of the revenue has been collected in the month of Shrawan, 56 percent in Bhadra, 77.45 in Asoj, 68.71 in Kartik, 76.60 in Mangsir, 86.31 in Poush, 79.65 in Magh and 25.79 percent by Falgun 15 of the current fiscal year.
Under the said customs, semi-finished clothes, hardware materials, tiles, granite, coal, agricultural produce, agricultural pesticides, food grains, vegetables and fruits, sports equipment, stationery, raw materials for various industries, household items and other materials have been imported through the Jatahi border. Customs Officer Das said.
The said customs office also has Inaruwa, Mainathpur and Bhadiya small customs offices. These offices have the authority to collect customs revenue up to Rs. 5,000. The main reasons for the shortfall compared to the revenue collection target are lack of control over smuggling and economic slowdown.
