‘This year, 50 to 80 oranges per kilogram have been sold from the plants. The farmers initially sold for Rs 50, but by the end they were getting a price of up to Rs 80 per kg,’ said Acharya. According to him, oranges are produced in Kuse Rural Municipality, Nalgad Municipality, Chhedagar Municipality, Shivalay Rural Municipality, Bheri Municipality, Barekot Rural Municipality of the district. Information Officer Acharya said that they are providing technical assistance by visiting the farmers’ fields and providing them with fertilizer, pruning and medicine.

Farmer Ram Bahadur Malla of Damdala, Kuse-5, informed that he has been earning a good income from orange farming recently and there is no problem with marketing. He says that although there was a market problem for oranges earlier, now they are buying from Surkhet and Nepalgunj to reach the traders’ fields.

Januka Malla of Kuse-5 Damdalak said that farmers are now turning their fields, which were previously used for grain crops, into orange gardens. According to him, they are attracted to this because they earn more from oranges than from farming.

Recently, the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Project, the Agricultural Development Office, and the agriculture branch of the municipality have been providing technical and mechanization assistance to farmers in the district.
