Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology and government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that Nepal Rastra Bank will get a new governor soon. While answering the questions of media persons while narrating the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, Minister Gurung said that the Rastra Bank will get a governor as soon as possible.
He said that a committee to recommend the appointment of the governor has been formed under the coordination of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel and the committee is also working.
He said that it is not true that the appointment of the governor was delayed due to the disagreement between the two parties. He insisted that the work will not be stopped as the government has already appointed Deputy Governor Neelam Dhungana as the acting governor. He said that the decision to raise Nepal from the grey list is not only in the hands of the governor and the government is working to raise it from the grey list.
He said, ‘We have formed a committee under the coordination of the Finance Minister to recommend the appointment of the governor in time. Dr. Vijay Bhattarai and Dr. Bishwa Poudel are there. They are also working. It is not true that the appointment of the governor was delayed due to the disagreement between the two parties. We have appointed Deputy Governor Neelam Dhunganaji as the acting governor. That will do the job. We will get a permanent governor sooner rather than later.’
‘The decision to raise Nepal from the grey list is not only in the hands of the governor. The government’s good governance is equally important, the monetary and financial policies of the National Bank also play an important role. Due to that, our business facilities will increase. Money laundering will also become weaker. Now there is a situation. We will put an end to it. It is not that the governor alone will do it, but the governor’s role is important,’ he said.
He said that the government is working on raising the country from the grey list.
