Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The government has decided to ban the production, import, sale, distribution and use of plastic thinner than 40 microns with effect from November 1, 2019 to reduce environmental pollution caused by plastic products.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel said this during the budget speech for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS. According to him, arrangements have been made to provide capital subsidy for the responsible replacement to increase the quality of the existing industries.
He said that environmental protection programmes would be carried out keeping in view the adverse impact on the melting mountains, drying glaciers and the entire ecosystem. He said he would advocate in international forums to protect Nepal’s interests in line with the principles of climate justice.
Stating that financial funds would be increased in climate funds, he said the findings of sagarmatha dialogue would be implemented.
He said climate adaptation programmes would be internalised at the provincial and local levels in collaboration with the global community. He said that policy clarity will be brought to cover all aspects of carbon trade.
