Kathmandu. The Health Insurance Board has taken various decisions to reduce unnecessary expenses and increase income to make the health insurance program effective.

The board meeting chaired by Chairman Chandra Bahadur Thapa noted that there is a problem in payment due to unnecessary testing and increased insurance claims. It has requested the Ministry of Health and Population to help prevent such practices and make arrangements to follow protocols during treatment.

The board stated that there is a demand for the health insurance program even for the amount given for basic health treatment, and the board has requested the ministry to help in this, concluding that if duplication can be eliminated, the liability will be reduced.

After the board’s request, Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel A suggestion task force has been formed to fully implement the treatment standards and eliminate duplication. The board has proposed that a certain percentage of the expenses of all companies selling and distributing medicines in Nepal can be spent on the Health Insurance Fund as a new source of income.

Executive Director Dr. Raghuraj Kafle informed that the board has written to the Ministry of Health for support for this as well. Similarly, the board has sought permission from the government to run a health insurance lottery program as a way to increase income.

Health Minister Poudel has previously decided to deposit one percent of the income of all Federal Hospital Development Committees directly into the Insurance Fund.
