The District Administration Office, after discussing with the Beni-Jomsom-Korla Road Project and Construction Company, has directed to complete the blacktop of the Marfa-Jomsom section by next Baisakh.
While 12 km of the 17-kilometer Kowang-Jomsom road has been blacktopped, four km of the Marfa (Jomsom) road and one km of the Thasang (1 Tukuche road have not been blacktopped for nine months. In a meeting held at the Administration Office, Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Bhusal informed that the construction company has been directed to prepare the infrastructure by prioritizing the work of the section while focusing on the development and construction of the ailing projects in the district and making travel easier. .
The meeting discussed the problems faced by tourists and local citizens due to the lack of blacktop on the Marfa (Jomsom) road, as well as solutions. The fourth section of the Beni-Jomsom road, which was contracted in the fiscal year 2073.74, has been extended six times so far.
The construction company stated that the blacktop from Kobang to Marfa has been completed and that the RCC road has been expanded for about 2000 meters in the Jomsom area. The construction company has only partially worked on four km of the Marfa-Jomsom section since the beginning of the current fiscal year, leaving the road in a state of disrepair. Pappu-Gauri-Parbati and Koshi & Nyopane JV had signed a contract agreement with the project. Koshi & Nyopane had taken the Kobang-Jomsom road blacktop ahead. The main construction company, Pappu Gauri Parbati, had returned to work after delays in the work on the Kobang-Jomsom road, which had a contract cost of Rs 700 million. The company that returned to work had also left the road in a state of disrepair for nine months without working. .
Prajya Bhusal said that after the construction company delayed work in the Kobang (Marpha section, where about 90 percent of physical progress has been made, action has been taken to impose a daily fine of 0.05 percent of the contract cost from Asoj of the current year. Emphasizing the need to complete the ailing projects of the district, he informed that the last instruction has been given to complete the Kobang (Jamsom) project by April 20.
CZO Bhusal said that the work will not be completed due to fraud and that if the work does not start within a week, the construction company will be blacklisted and action will be taken. ‘The construction company has committed to deploying the necessary manpower and equipment to the work site by April 20,’ he said. He has given an ‘ultimatum’ to terminate the contract if the work does not start by April 21. He has instructed the project to submit progress details of the work every day.’
Beni Jomsom (Korla section project chief Dhruv Jha expressed confidence that the work will pick up speed as the construction company has committed to completing the blacktop of the four-km stretch from Marfa to Jomsom by April 20. “The road blacktop work will start in earnest within a week. We have already drawn the attention of the construction company to manage manpower, necessary materials and equipment,” he said. “If the work cannot start from Chaitra 21, we are preparing to terminate the contract and blacklist it.”
Meanwhile, Ram Kumar Thapa, the chief contractor of the construction company Pappu-Gauri (Parvati) of the Kobang-Jomsom section, made a commitment to the administration and the project, saying that preparations are underway to start work to complete the asphalt blacktop on the section by the upcoming Baisakh. “We have moved forward with the work to complete the subgrade, subbase, base, prime coat and blacktop for the blacktop in the said section. Rest assured, the blacktop will now be completed by Baisakh,” he said. Locals have been criticizing the lack of blacktop on the four-km road of the Kobang Marfa-Jomsom section, which is a national pride project, from Ghansa in Mustang section to Muktinath and Kagbeni area. If the section is blacktopped, it will be easier for tourists and local citizens visiting Muktinath to travel.
