Kathmandu. It has been a long time since the Government of Nepal passed the Radioactive Substances (Use and Regulation) Act, 2077. After the enactment of the act, the Ministry of Science and Technology has forwarded the work for acquiring land at Bhatapokhari in Dhulikhel Ward No. 8, Bhatapokhari to build an atomic research center.

With the construction of this center, the state will take a big leap in the field of treatment of patients like cancer. Till date, the state, which is dependent on nuclear medicine, will become self-reliant. Thousands of people die every year in Nepal due to cancer and other diseases. The state has been spending billions of rupees on molecular medicine every year for the treatment of citizens.

Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Bishwa Babu Pudasaini, said that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is going to set up an atomic research center to establish such research centers not only for drug treatment but also in many other fields.

Secretary Pudasaini, who reached Badalgaon of Dhulikhel Ward No. 8 along with a team of Dhulikhel Municipality to inspect the land at a time when the land acquisition was in the final stage, said that its importance is national. He said that the production in Nepal would be a big contribution to the country at a time when there is less technology for cancer treatment. According to Secretary Pudasaini, a minimum of Rs 3 billion is required to start the project.

For this, appeals will also be made to donor agencies to the World Bank and there should be no doubt that it will pose a threat to its security and local people. He believes that this research center will be important for the creation of molecular medicine and research in all fields.

Dhulikhel Municipality has already decided to provide around 92 ropanis of land except kholsa kholsi and the temple on the ground for the construction of Bhatapokhari Nuclear Center in Ward No. 8 of Dhulikhel Municipality.

Executive Officer of Dhulikhel Municipality Mohan Marasini said that the entire municipality is healthy that such centers will benefit not only Dhulikhel but the entire state. On the other hand, the ward chair, who has been working for the prosperity of the ward, said that the construction of such centers would benefit the entire state as the land acquisition was in the final stage.

Binod Gautam, ward chair of Dhulikhel Ward No. 8, claimed that it would be useful to save billions of rupees spent annually and reduce the dependence on medicines and lack of treatment. Kali Prasad Badal, a 77-year-old local, said he would leave the unregistered land after the municipality asked him to give up the unregistered land he was occupying to complete the project.

According to the expectations of the locals, the work to be made mandatory by the state has started even though it is late. The Government of Nepal needs to be serious about taking a leap forward in nuclear medicine in Nepal by completing such research centers soon.
