Ranjha. Due to lack of protection, the infrastructure built around Kanti Lake in Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City-22 Puraini is becoming dilapidated.
The railings built by Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City at a cost of crores have collapsed. Local Chakra Budha said that iron pipes were stolen.
‘The structures built around the lake have been vandalized,’ he said. ‘Despite repeated reports to the concerned bodies for safety, there has been no response.’
Out of about 1,800 meters of railings, 300 meters of railings have been vandalized. Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City had launched a plan in 2075 BS to develop Kanti Lake as a tourist destination by organizing it.
A wall, railing, and a road with a footpath and drain have been constructed around the lake. Contractor Phan Bahadur Gurung, who was contracted to pay 2.8 million rupees annually to the sub-metropolitan city to operate the lake, says that drug users may have vandalized the railing.
The contractor is also responsible for the security of the lake’s structures. The contractor has deployed a watchman for that. Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Prashant Bista said that it is suspected that drug addicts may have vandalized and stolen the lake structure during the night.
He informed that the contractor has been alerted to stop such activities.
