Indian company gets responsibility for operating Birgunj dry port, costing Rs 4.71 billion

Birgunj. Indian company Pristine Mega Logistic Park Pvt. Ltd. has been given the responsibility of managing and operating the Birgunj Dry Port (Inland Clearance Depot).

Executive Director of Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee Ashish Gajurel informed that Pristine Mega Logistic Park Pvt. Ltd. has been selected to operate and manage the dry port for the next five years at a cost of Rs 4.71 billion.

According to the committee, Container Corporation of India Limited and Pristine Mega Logistic Park Pvt. Ltd. were selected in the technical evaluation of the bids called for the management and operation of the dry port. .

Container Corporation of India Pvt. Ltd. had bid for Rs 4.51 billion. According to the committee, after signing a contract with the selected company, it will be allowed to manage and operate the dry port for five years from next Shrawan.

Earlier, the same company had received the contract for the management and operation of the dry port for five years at a cost of Rs 3.33 billion. The dry port in Sirsia, Birgunj is located on an area of 57 bighas. This port is used to transport goods only by cargo train.

It was built in 2000 at a cost of Rs 820 million with the help of a loan from the World Bank. A rail link from Raxaul to the port has been built at a cost of Rs 200 million by the Government of India. The Birgunj Dry Port Customs Office has collected Rs 32.32 billion in revenue during the eight months of the current fiscal year.

In the previous fiscal year, the office had collected Rs 47.31 billion in revenue.
