Kavrepalanchowk. Kavrepalanchowk: The arrival of foreign visitors to the museum at Panauti in kavrepalanchowk has been increasing. Established about 15 years ago as a repository of materials and identity reflecting religious, historical and cultural significance, the number of foreign visitors has been increasing in recent times.
Established in the premises of Indreshwar Mahadev Temple at Panauti, this museum is the first and only museum in the district. In the last one year, 3,500 foreign visitors visited the museum. Of the 4,500 visitors, 3,500 are foreigners, said Rajendra Mahaju, chief of the museum. According to him, old coins, paper notes and locally used household items have also been kept in the museum.
Mahaju said that the museum, which was brought into operation by the Panauti Municipal Office in 2067 BS, has preserved old and historical objects of the district, especially Panauti. “One can see the development of Panauti, its old activities, temples and other available inscriptions in the museum. The museum, which has been brought into operation in collaboration with the municipality office with the active participation of the locals, has statues of Malla period, Shah period, wooden art models, various dresses and old weapons,” he said.
Chief Mahaju said that the importance of this place is increasing as it is a religious, historical and tourist destination and sacred religious place. The museum was brought into operation by forming a memorial committee here. Handicraft items have also been kept in the museum. Most of the domestic and foreign tourists visit the museum as it is in the premises of The Indreshwor Temple.
According to Mahaju, the arrival of foreign tourists has been increasing not only last year but also for the last few years. The municipality office has been urging the locals to provide old materials to the locals for display in the museum operating as per the standards of the Department of Archaeology. Trivenighat and bathing place in panauti, a religious and historical city, have also had their own significance. The municipality office is taking initiatives to list Panauti as a World Heritage Site.
“Almost all the tourists who understand its importance come here,” Mahaju said. According to him, hundreds of students visit the museum every year from different places. Foreign, domestic tourists and students have been charged different fees for visiting the museum, he said.
