Banke. To keep the tourism sector in Nepalgunj vibrant, investment is increasing in the hotel business here. Star hotels operating in Nepalgunj are increasing their investment in infrastructure expansion and service facilities, while new hotels are investing heavily.
The five-star hotel ‘Pauwa Western’ under construction here is investing one billion. Durga Bhandari, the president of Hotel Pauwa, informed that the hotel in Nepalgunj has planned to invest around one billion to have international facilities within Nepali hospitality.
According to her, the first phase of work has been completed and a state-of-the-art assembly hall and Nepali restaurant service have started, while the main residence building is being constructed. He said that the necessary infrastructure and facilities will not be lacking to keep the tourism sector of this region dynamic.
Giriraj Pandey, manager of Hotel Pauwa Nepalgunj, informed that the branch operating in Nepalgunj will have five restaurants of different tastes and cuisines, 14 meeting halls including four large assembly halls, and 96 deluxe rooms including seven suite rooms. He said that it will be the first hotel in Nepalgunj to have a spa, swimming pool, and gym facilities under one roof with nine floors.
Hotel City Palace, operated in Nepalgunj itself, has been able to provide five-star level facilities by increasing investment in infrastructure, said the hotel’s operator Lokendra Aryal. He informed that additional investment has been made in infrastructure and service facilities as per the standards of a five-star hotel.
Ranga Bahadur Khadka, President of the Hotel Entrepreneurs Association, Banke, Nepalgunj, said that the hotel and tourism industry, which was hit by COVID-19 and the subsequent economic recession, is progressing. He said that the government should create a positive environment at the policy level to further support the situation moving towards improvement.
‘Despite whatever external narratives are tried to establish, the fact has shown that the economic sector is moving forward,’ Khadka said, ‘Hotels with investments worth crores are not just opening, the situation is improving.’
Madan BC, the founding president of the association, said that the positive approach towards hotel entrepreneurs has brought about an improvement in the business situation. “Yesterday, when you entered a hotel, you were looked at with a different eye, you were suspicious. In the last two decades, there has been a massive change in the perspective of Nepalis. Now, not only wedding banquets, but also sacred mandapams for bride-gifts have started being built in hotels. This has helped the business,” he said.
Bhim Kandel, outgoing president of the Banke Hotel Entrepreneurs Association, mentioned that since Nepalgunj has a lot of potential for business improvement, the three levels of government should create a model of collaboration with the private sector to keep the hotel business and tourism sector dynamic.
Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Prashant Bista expressed happiness that the hotel and tourism business, which was at great risk due to COVID-19, has moved forward in a reforming state and called for turning the potential of tourism into an opportunity. He said that cooperation is necessary.
‘Even after improving policy problems, sustainable development in tourism must be sought. I am committed to supporting hotels and tourism, which are areas of great revenue and employment,’ said Mayor Bista. ‘The government needs to pay attention to creating an environment where Indian tourists can come easily.’
