Nepal Oil Corporation’s Madhes Provincial Office, Amlekhgunj, has informed that the import of petroleum products including petrol, kerosene and other petroleum products through the pipeline has begun after the completion of the international petroleum pipeline expansion work.

Prayankar Acharya, Chief of Nepal Oil Corporation Madhes Provincial Office, Amlekhgunj, informed that the entire work of the petroleum pipeline expansion has been completed and regular import of petroleum products through the pipeline has started for a few days.

“Petrol and kerosene have already arrived through the pipeline,” said Chief Acharya. “Now, we have officially started distributing the petrol imported through the pipeline to depots in major cities of Nepal.”

Under the pipeline expansion project Chief Acharya said that the Indian Oil Corporation has constructed two petrol tanks with a capacity of 4,100 kiloliters, two transmix tanks with a capacity of 250 kiloliters, 24 fully automatic loading way-refillers for transporting petrol, a pump house and a laboratory at the depot in Amlekhgunj.

Under the same project, the ‘fire fighting system’ has been upgraded, an ‘OWS’ system for separating water and oil, and a PMCC chamber have also been constructed. The contract was given to Likhita Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. to complete the entire infrastructure by 2023. Chief Acharya said that the pipeline expansion work was completed only a few days ago due to various reasons.

Similarly, the Indian Oil Corporation has constructed two transmix tanks to store mixed fuel, which can be both petrol and diesel, and a firewater tank with a capacity of 3,000 kiloliters for security inside the depot.

The first phase of work under the project has been completed and diesel has been imported through the pipeline since Bhadra 25, 2076 BS. “Although it was possible to import petrol and kerosene through the same pipeline, there was a compulsion to bring petroleum products through tankers due to lack of storage capacity,” said Chief Acharya. “After the completion of the project, regular import of all three products – petrol, diesel and kerosene – has started through the pipeline.”

Office Chief Acharya said that importing petroleum products through the Motihari-Amlekhgunj pipeline will result in zero technical losses, save on transportation costs and help reduce environmental pollution. Once the project is completed, the storage capacity of diesel at the Amlekhgunj depot will reach 24,840 kiloliters and the storage capacity of petrol will reach 16,630 kiloliters.
