Kathmandu. Everest Fiber Cement Board Industry, the first international quality fiber cement board manufacturing industry in Nepal with an investment of Rs 1.5 billion by IME Group, has come into operation from Wednesday (Ashar 11).
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari inaugurated the industry at a program organized in Kathmandu on Wednesday and formally unveiled the fiber cement board produced by the industry and various products manufactured from it.
Addressing the program, Minister Bhandari said that the establishment of a quality, environment-friendly and state-of-the-art technology-based industry in the country is an important step towards Nepal’s industrial development. Minister Bhandari mentioned that the government will always encourage production-oriented investment as this industry will not only replace imports but will also lead the construction sector on the path of sustainable development.
Addressing the ceremony, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of IME Group Chandra Prasad Dhakal said that the new industry has been established to contribute to the construction sector by using domestic raw materials and local resources.
Chairman Dhakal also mentioned that this will create employment within the country and as it will be produced in Nepal, it will pave the way towards a self-reliant economy by replacing imports and avoiding a large outflow of foreign exchange. Chairman Dhakal also said that this industry has given the message that the production of international standard construction materials is possible within Nepal through indigenous skills, local resources and potential.
This industry, established under the IME Group with an investment of about one and a half billion rupees, is located in Fatuwa Bijaypur Municipality-6 of Rautahat district. In this industry, all processes from mixing raw materials to board cutting, pressing and drawing are based on fully automated technology. The industry has the capacity to produce 75,000 square feet of cement fiber board daily.
The boards produced here are available in 4 feet length, 8 feet width, and 4 mm to 30 mm thickness. These boards are flexible, fire-resistant, weather-resistant, environmentally friendly and extremely durable.
Fiber cement boards are used in various structures including building exteriors, partitions, false ceilings, modular kitchens, eco panels, etc. Even complete structures can be constructed as an alternative to bricks and plaster, which can be prepared in 10-15 days, so its demand is increasing rapidly not only in Nepal but also in the international market.
The boards produced by this industry will also become a fast, cheap and sustainable alternative in the construction of emergency structures during natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods or landslides. There will be significant savings in time and cost as there is no hassle of plaster or paint.
This industry has emphasized on promoting local employment. Currently, about 200 people have been directly or indirectly employed, of which more than 98 percent are local manpower and more than 40 percent are female workers. They are involved in all the work from processing to packing.
Everest Fiber Cement Board Pvt. Ltd. aims to make a significant contribution to the construction sector through environmentally friendly, quality and competitive products.
