Image Cooperative Chairman Nepali in custody, depositors’ 10 million rupees returned

Baglung. 10 million rupees have been returned to the depositors of Image Savings and Loan Cooperative. After 547 depositors of the cooperative’s Dhorpatan and Galkot service centers reached a settlement with the organization’s chairman Dev Kumar Nepali at the District Court, Baglung, the refund of depositors’ money up to Rs 100,000 has begun.

92 depositors of Dhorpatan have received checks worth Rs 3.7 million, while 147 depositors of Galkot Municipality have received money back, informed Manju Sharma Chalise, coordinator of Image Victim Struggle Committee, Galkot Burtiwang. “10 million depositors were refunded in two days,” he said.

Chalice said that the process has been taken forward so that up to one lakh depositors out of the 547 depositors in Galkot and Dhorpatan will get their money back immediately. The depositors’ money was refunded in the presence of the Area Police Office, Harichour and people’s representatives. According to Coordinator Chalise, an agreement has also been reached to collaborate with Mina Group Company Pvt. Ltd. to return the money of the remaining savers of the cooperative.

As of December 26, 547 victims of the cooperative fraud case of Dev Kumar Nepali, the founding chairman of the cooperative and mayor of Dhorpatan Municipality, have reconciled and not claimed the amount.

The savers of the cooperative have reconciled, saying that they have received the amount they are entitled to from Nepali’s household assets. The amount of the defrauded amount of the savers has been received together in the household, and the amount of the amount claimed in the case has also decreased after the reconciliation. The order states that a settlement was made pursuant to Section 118 (3) of the Criminal Code 2074 BS, as 547 individuals, including victims Tara Bahadur Kunwar, Manju Sharma Chalise and Yama Bahadur Kunwar, applied for settlement pursuant to Section 117. The chairman of the cooperative, Nepali, is currently in custody awaiting trial.
