Kathmandu. Rashtriya Janamorcha President Chitra Bahadur KC has said that he is in the agitating for the abolition of provinces. Speaking at the State Administration and Good Governance Committee meeting at Singha Durbar on Friday, President KC said that his party has been opposed to provinces since the time of the constitution.
He claims that the door to development will not open in the country without abolishing the provinces. He also said that the incident that took place in Tinkune on Chaitra 15 was with the intention of ending democracy and republic. He said that despite the provision in the constitution that disagreements can be resolved through a referendum, anarchic activities are being carried out in a hostile manner.
He also said that the government should be vigilant against the system being dismantled and hostile movements in the name of protests, noting that the Tinkune incident indicated that democracy and the republic had not been secured, and commented that everyone should be vigilant.
He said, ‘This movement has come with the intention of ending democracy and the republic. We may have differences on some matters within the constitution. That difference is to influence the people in that way and bring public opinion in our favor and remove the issue of disagreement. The government should be careful with the hostile movement and the excuse that the system is being dismantled.’
‘Now I myself am also in the movement. I have been telling the government that there should be no province. Since the constitution was made, the Janamorcha has not said province. The kind of incident that happened in such a close place to the Home Ministry, in a place close to the security agencies, is not good. The relief provided by the government to the victims is a good thing. If we look at the Tinkune incident, democracy and republic are not safe. We should all be cautious,’ he mentioned.
CPN (Maoist Center) MP Durga Rai said that the government’s failure to exercise the necessary discretion in the Tinkune protest caused damage. She said that although the royalists had changed the commander at Nirmal Niwas the day before the protest, the government had not made the necessary preparations. He alleges that the government was not vigilant even when it appointed a commander to an anarchic person who took billions of rupees in loans from banks and played on the feelings of the people.
He said, “What did the government sit and watch when the 86-year-old commander was changed at Nirmal Niwas on Chaitra 14 and another commander was appointed? The government’s preparations were not sufficient for this. Because we have seen the activities of the commander in the past, from Balkhu to many places.” It had already been made public that the commander was appointed to play on the feelings of the debtors by saying that they do not have to pay after taking billions of rupees from the bank.’
Sarvendranath Shukla, MP of the Democratic Socialist Party, Nepal, asked why the royalists were given space to protest at a sensitive place near Tribhuvan Airport. He stressed that permission should not be given for demonstrations at such a sensitive place.
Most of the MPs who spoke at the meeting expressed the view that the government needed to be concerned and serious about the anti-establishment protests and demonstrators.
