Kathmandu. Today’s meeting of the House of Representatives has begun. As soon as the meeting began, opposition lawmakers stood up and protested. After the opposition protested, Speaker Devraj Ghimire gave time to Hitraj Pandey, Chief Whip of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center), to speak.
MP Pandey said that the urgent public importance motion registered in the parliament on Monday should be discussed. The urgent public importance motion, which Pandey was the proposer of, was registered in the parliament on Monday to take the initiative to address the legitimate demands of teachers who have been on the street for a long time.
Pandey demanded a ‘ruling’ through the Speaker to hold a discussion on the motion in the parliament today and find a solution to the problem. Nepal Communist Party (UML) Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula claimed that the government is serious about addressing the legitimate demands of the agitating teachers.
He said that it is necessary to immediately hold talks with the teachers to resolve the problem and to finalize the issue through talks. ‘The government is serious about the issues raised in the House and the Education Minister is continuously discussing and holding talks with the teacher representatives,’ he said, adding that he is hopeful that a solution will be found by this evening.
MP Prem Ale demanded an impartial investigation into the financial embezzlement at Pokhara and Bhairahawa airports. MP Shobha Gyawali expressed concern over the increase in wild animal attacks in various parts of the country and drew the attention of the concerned bodies to resolve the problem.
MP Gyan Bahadur Shahi urged the government to be serious in resolving the problems of the agitating teachers. The agenda of the meeting includes the presentation of a proposal by Minister for Education, Science and Technology Raghuji Panta to consider the ‘Tilganga Netra University Bill, 2081’, which originated in the National Assembly.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel will present a proposal to discuss the ‘Customs Bill, 2080, including the report of the Finance Committee’. A motion to pass the bill will also be presented today.
As per the agenda, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasia will present a motion to ‘Discuss the Bill to Amend Certain Nepal Acts, 2080, with the report of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee’. A motion to pass the bill will also be presented today.
