Chitwan. Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has said that government hospitals do not have the right to stop the health insurance program. Talking to reporters here today, he said that the registration of hospitals that stop the insurance program will not be renewed.

Government hospitals are saying that the program may be stopped, citing non-payment of insurance claims. In the same context, Minister Poudel said, ‘Government hospitals do not have the right to stop the insurance program. If someone stops the insurance program, the registration will not be renewed.’

He also informed that the Insurance Board will soon settle the claim payment for the program. He added, ‘Yesterday alone, Rs. 4 billion has been paid, and we are preparing to send the remaining amount within the current fiscal year.’

Noting that the government has given high priority to the insurance program, he said that it is necessary to bring the health insurance facilities provided by the government through various organizations into an integrated system.

He said that it is necessary to bring the insurance programs being operated by the Social Security Fund, Provident Fund, Citizens’ Investment Fund, Nepal Army and Nepal Police Family Welfare Fund into an integrated system.

He said that there is a problem in operating the health insurance program due to the budget, and the government is working to systematize it. He said, “Last year, during the budget speech, the government allocated Rs 7.5 billion for the insurance program. It requires Rs 100 billion. Its resources must be managed.”
