Kathmandu. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that the incident that took place in Kathmandu on Chaitra 15 was a criminal and destructive act. Speaking to the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives on Friday, Minister Lekhak said this.

Noting that the government has drawn serious attention to the incident at Tinkune, he also said that he is vigilant to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. He stressed that since the Tinkune incident was a criminal and destructive incident, it will be investigated through criminal legal process.

The MPs had demanded the formation of a commission of inquiry to investigate the truth and facts of the incident. Home Minister Lekhak said that the government’s regular criminal justice system will conduct an impartial investigation into the incident without any request or prejudice.

He also said that the arrest of those involved in looting, arson and looting of public property has not stopped yet. He also informed the committee that the commander of the Tinkune demonstration, Durga Prasai, has been arrested. Home Minister Lekhak stressed that no one will be spared as the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

He said, ‘When the country’s criminal legal process has begun, the investigation has already progressed. The organizers are known, who spoke there and said what. We know what arrogance each person has committed. This is a criminal activity. The government has taken action in this regard as per the prevailing laws of the state. The government’s regular criminal justice system works in this regard. The investigation is impartial, independent. No inducement or bias is induced. We reach a conclusion by seriously investigating the actions of each person. Legal action is taken against those who are found guilty, and those who are not found guilty are not prosecuted. Some people have been arrested. The arrests are ongoing. And the investigation is ongoing. The arrests may also continue. The role of each person is visible. That is how investigations are conducted and legal action is taken.’

He said that it is not appropriate to set fire to the democratic system and seek autocracy under any circumstances, and also mentioned that the Constitution gives everyone the right to go to the people and express their views and be elected.

He said, ‘I do not think it is appropriate for us to set fire to the democratic system and pursue autocracy in any language or word. Let us go to the people and express our views. We have been going to the people for the past five years. We are people who were elected by the people. We have to go again in 084. The time will come when the people send us. It won’t come when it’s not sent.’

He said that the work of providing relief of Rs. 1 million each to the families of those who died in the Tinkune incident has been progressed. He said that the government will provide free treatment to those injured in the incident. In the meeting, the MPs have expressed the opinion that former King Gyanendra Shah should be held responsible for the Tinkune incident.
