Siraha. A monitoring exercise has been launched at highway-centric hotels in Lahan under the leadership of the Area Administration Office Lahan. During the monitoring, a fine of Rs 30,000 was imposed on four hotels selling expired beverages and rotten food on Wednesday.
A joint team led by Santosh Ray, an officer of the Area Administration Office Lahan, including representatives from the Food and Quality Control Office Rajbiraj, the Cottage and Small Industries Office Lahan, the Inland Revenue Office Lahan, the Area Police Office Lahan, and the Consumer Forum Nepal Siraha, has started monitoring the hotels.
The joint monitoring team seized and destroyed 37 expired bottles of ‘Badbisar’ brand beer at the Kanchha Hotel in Lahan-1 and fined the hotel Rs 5,000. Similarly, the hotel in Lahan-4, Godhulli, has been fined Rs 5,000 after it was found that food was kept uncovered in the kitchen, cooked and uncooked meat was kept in the refrigerator, and that cleanliness was neglected.
Similarly, Kiran Sweets and Restaurant located in the premises of Lahan Eye Hospital was fined Rs 10,000 after it was found that food was prepared using inedible materials, newspapers were used to cover food items, and garbage was piled up near the kitchen. A fine of Rs 10,000 was imposed after 38 expired ‘cold drinks’ were found at Rishika General Stores in front of the hotel. After the shop was found to be selling and distributing excise goods without a license, the materials were seized and handed over to the Inland Revenue Office, Lahan.
During the monitoring, Hotel Samrat Inn and Chaudhary Hotel were found to be following the basic hotel standards, so only an alert was issued, said Santosh Rai, an officer of the Area Administration Office, Lahan.
In view of the new year 2082, millions of devotees who will come to the Flower Bari Fair on Baisakh 1 informed that monitoring has been started to prevent the health of customers from being affected by the food served in these hotels. He said that hotels that are negligent towards the health of consumers have been fined according to the law and that market monitoring will continue in the coming days.
