Halesi Tuwachung Municipality is helping to remove debris accumulated by the flood.

Khotang. Halesi Tuwachung Municipality has started helping farmers remove the silt that accumulated in their fields due to the severe flood that hit Sunkoshi on Asoj 12. The municipality has helped farmers to remove the sand, gravel and stones accumulated by the flood and make the land suitable for cultivation again.

The severe flood that hit Sunkoshi has destroyed more than 250 ropanis of fields belonging to local farmers from about 150 households in Ward No. 2 Dikuwa, Ward No. 8 Dhitung and Ward No. 11 Rajapani of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality. Locals have said that more than 150 ropanis of cultivable land of 60 farmers in Bhadbesi alone, which borders Dhitung and Rajapani, has been buried by the Gegar brought by the flood.

The municipality had provided relief of Rs. 7,000 to 31 farmers in Rajapani who had suffered complete damage due to the severe flood in Asoj. The municipality had decided to remove the Gegar piled up in the fields of farmers who had suffered partial damage by using a JCB.

The municipality is using a JCB to remove sand, gravel and stones to restore the fields of farmers who were buried by the Gegar brought by the severe flood and create an environment for farming, informed Kamal Giri, the municipal spokesperson and ward chairman of Ward No. 7 Mahadevsthan. It is reported that the municipality has provided JCB and necessary diesel and offloaders to remove the debris piled up in the fields of farmers who have suffered complete and partial damage.

The municipality has stated that the severe flood that occurred on Asoj has buried 15-20 ropanis of the field of a single farmer. The areas around Sunkoshi in Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, which is located in a drought-affected area, are arable land. Mayor Bimala Rai said that the removal of debris piled up in the fields has been started to help the farmers around Sunkoshi resettle since the severe flood that occurred on Asoj 12.

‘The severe flood that occurred on Asoj 12 has caused great damage to our municipality. The most damage has been done to the fields of farmers around Sunkoshi. We have also provided relief to some of them,’ he said, ‘It is seen that most of the flood-damaged areas need to be dammed. That work is not possible for the municipality. We have recommended it at the higher level for that. The municipality has started the work of removing the Gegar to create an environment for farming for the time being.’

The municipality has stated that the work of removing the Gegar, which started in the first phase from Bhandbesi, will gradually go to the fields of farmers everywhere via Regmitar. In Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, which has eleven wards, floods and landslides had damaged dozens of houses and schools. Some of those displaced by the severe floods and landslides that occurred on the eve of the festival, having lost all the provisions in their homes and homes, had celebrated Dashain with relatives, neighbors, schools and public places. The municipality has provided relief to those displaced by the floods and landslides, with nothing but lentils, rice, and salt and oil for basic food and blankets and sheets for shelter.
