Myagdi. Gurja, a very remote village in Myagdi, is still not connected to the road network. Gurja, located in Dhawalagiri rural municipality-1 of the district, does not have access to the road network, but it has access to the attraction of domestic tourists.

The saying ‘there is no place above tuppy, there is no village above gurja’ is very popular in Myagdi. The last village in the district is a village with a large population of The Gurja Chhantyal tribe. This village is also known as the small eye window to see the life, civilization and culture of the Chhantyal community.

In recent times, Gurja village has become the best destination for domestic tourists. Jhak Bahadur Chhantyal, ward chair of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-1, Gurja, said that after the construction of a 16-kilometer track of the road connecting Gurja under the Lulang-Gurja Road Project, there has been an influx of domestic tourists here. If an additional five kilometers of track is constructed, Gurja will be connected to the road network. After that, gurja village, which has become a mystery for many, can be brought from the district headquarters Beni Bazar in a single day.

According to Ward Chair Chhantyal, a 16-km track has been constructed from Lulang to Bhalukhoria via Deurali-Latrawang. Now only five kilometers are left to reach the village. Many people’s dream of reaching Gurja will be fulfilled once it is connected to the road network,” said Ward Chair Chhantyal. The federal, Gandaki state governments and the rural municipality have signed the contract for the Lulang-Gurja road at a cost of Rs 38 million. Work is still going on.

Located at an altitude of 3,220 meters above sea level, gurja village has seen an increase in the number of people visiting the village individually and institutionally since the beginning of 2082 BS. Chhantyal said that some organizations of beni bazaar, the district headquarters, have reached Gurja and organized various programs. A few days ago, a team of Myagdi Jessies returned to Gurja. “Gurja village is like an open university for eco-tourism and study for cultural and biological diversity,” said JC Suman Baniya.

President of Myagdi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Subin Shrestha, who recently returned home after visiting Gurja, said the village has a wealth of herbs, mines and tourism potential. Chairman Shrestha said, “The traditional style of clean and smooth houses, beautiful animal husbandry, ‘organic’ products grown without the use of pesticides and chemical things, green forests all around, crowded and noise-free environment, original culture and simple, simple and temperamental Chhantyal community, Gurja is a truly attractive place, it is a place to reach once in a lifetime.”

Natural beauty, biodiversity, social values and environmental purity are the hallmarks of Gurja. Kamal Chhantyal, a local, said that more than 100 domestic tourists have arrived here for personal, institutional and political meetings or programs from April to the first week of May.

Shrestha, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said gurja village should be developed as an adventure trail hub. Initiatives are being made to identify and use the Yarsa trekking route that comes out of Rukum via dhorpatan, putha and churen mountain base camp from here.
