Government’s expenditure exceeds income, development expenditure only 23 percent in eight months

Kathmandu. The government’s expenditure has been seen to be higher than its income until the second quarter of the current fiscal year 2081/82. According to the data of the Comptroller General’s Office, the government has earned 738 billion 821 million 13 lakhs by mid-Falgun and spent 839 billion 356 million. That is, the government’s expenditure has been 1534.7 million more than its income by the second quarter.

Similarly, the government’s development expenditure has also been very weak during this period. According to the data of the Comptroller General, capital expenditure is only 23.37 percent of the annual allocation by mid-Falgun. The government has allocated Rs 352.354 billion for the current fiscal year under the capital heading, but so far only Rs 82.336 billion has been spent.

The government had brought a budget of Rs 1860.333 billion for the current fiscal year. By mid-Falgun, 45.12 percent of the annual allocation, or Rs 839.356 billion, has been spent.

Out of the Rs 1140.664 billion allocated under the current heading, 51.21 percent, or Rs 584.1278 billion, has been spent. Of the Rs 367 billion 284 million allocated under the financial management heading, 47.07 percent, or Rs 172 billion 892.2 million, has been spent.

The government has set a revenue target of Rs 1471 billion 629.5 million for the current fiscal year, but so far, 50.2 percent, or Rs 738 billion 821.3 million, has been collected. Of which, 49.74 percent or 638.79 billion rupees have been collected out of the 1284 billion 209.6 million rupees allocated for tax revenue.

Similarly, 635 billion 93.4 million rupees have been collected out of the 135 billion 93.4 million rupees targeted for non-tax revenue.

The government’s foreign grant collection is also very weak. The target for the current fiscal year is to collect 52 billion 326.5 million rupees in foreign grants, but 17.51 percent or 9 billion 162.5 million rupees have been collected so far.
