Government’s development expenditure very weak: Only 45 percent of capital expenditure with two months left for the end of the current fiscal year

Kathmandu. With just two months left for the end of the current fiscal year 2081/82, the government’s development expenditure has been very weak. According to data from the Office of the Controller General of Accounts, only about one-third of the capital expenditure has been incurred till mid-April.

The federal government has so far spent only Rs 120.37 billion or 34.16 per cent of the annual allocation of Rs 352.35 billion under the capital head for the current fiscal year.

Similarly, rs 1,140.66 billion has been allocated under the current head, of which 67.79 percent of the annual target or Rs 773.22 billion has been spent. The expenditure so far under the head of financial arrangement is 71.96 percent. Of the Rs 367.28 billion allocated under this head, Rs 264.28 billion has been spent till mid-April.

In this way, the total budget expenditure till the same period of the current fiscal year is equal to 62.24 percent. According to the Office of the Controller General of Accounts, a budget of Rs 1,860.30 billion was presented this year, of which Rs 1,157.89 billion was spent in the first ten months.

The deficit budget has crossed Rs 200 billion during this period as the revenue collection is very low compared to the expenditure. The government has collected only Rs 949.76 billion in revenue till mid-April, which means that the expenditure is Rs 208.13 billion more than the government’s income during this period. For the current fiscal year, the government had set a target to collect a total revenue of Rs 1,471.62 billion.

The revenue collection so far is equivalent to 64.54 percent of the annual target.

Similarly, only 30.8 percent of the target has been taken so far against the target of Rs 52.32 billion for the current fiscal year. Foreign aid amounting to Rs 16.11 billion has come in till mid-April.

Of the annual target of Rs 1,284.20 billion, 64.55 per cent or Rs 828.94 billion has been collected so far. Similarly, 69.2 per cent or Rs 93.49 billion of the annual target of collecting Rs 135.9 billion from non-tax revenue has been collected so far, according to data provided by the Office of the Controller General of Accounts.
