Tamghas. Government vehicles worth crores of rupees are lying idle in Gulmi. Government vehicles are lying idle in offices such as the District Coordination Committee, Nepal Telecom, Agricultural Knowledge Center, Prime Minister’s Modernization Project, Forest Office, Gulmi Hospital, etc.
Motorcycles, dozers, four-wheelers, ambulances and other vehicles are lying idle. Some of them do not have records in government offices. A chain-driven bulldozer has been lying idle in front of the Nepal Telecom, Gulmi office since 2068 BS. Most of the dozer’s working materials have been stolen, while the rest is covered in weeds, said Shankar Marasini, acting head of the telecom.
Similarly, four vehicles are parked in a very dilapidated and abandoned condition in the premises of the District Coordination Committee. Land Rover company vehicles with numbers Ba 1 Jha 660 and Ba 1 Jha 6681 are parked in the corner of the Coordination Committee. Although the value of both vehicles was estimated at Rs 8 million at the time, the current value is said to be around Rs 3 million.
Vehicle number Ba 1 Jha 660 is also in an unused state in front of the Coordination Committee. It is said that the vehicle can be brought back into operation by spending about Rs 9 million. The current value of the vehicle is estimated to be more than Rs 15 million. Another black vehicle without a number plate is also missing from the premises of the coordination committee. Although the current new price of the Land Rover company’s vehicle is 1.5 million, the purchase price record is nowhere to be found.
Not only dozers and four-wheelers in Gulmi, the same situation is also with government motorcycles. A Yamaha company motorcycle worth 250,000 is lying unused in the coordination committee itself. A Honda company motorcycle with the number Ba 1 Ba 7645 is lying idle at the District Forest Office. The current value of the motorcycle is around 600,000.
Five motorcycles of the Krishi Gyan Kendra and three motorcycles of the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Project are lying idle. The motorcycles with numbers Lu 1 B 947, Ba 2 Kha 1677, Lu 1 B 947, Lu 1 B 278 and Lu 1 B 279 in the name of the Knowledge Center are in a very dilapidated condition. Considering the current value of most Yamaha company motorcycles at the rate of three lakhs each, about 1.5 million motorcycles are lying idle in the name of the Knowledge Center, said Shiva Banjade, Information Officer of the Knowledge Center. Yamaha company motorcycles with numbers Ba 2 Kha 6288, Lu 1 B 900 and Ba 1 B 9399 in the name of the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Project are unused.
Grass has grown on two ambulances of Gulmi Hospital. Ambulance number Lu 1 Jha 279, which met with an accident in Simichaur seven years ago, has been kept in a field instead of being repaired. There is no further information about the ambulance number Lu 1 Jha 235 in the hospital. The current price of both ambulances is around 2.5 million rupees after customs clearance. As no one is interested in the management of the ambulances, they are lying idle. Two ambulances with government number plates are also unused in Sirseni and Purkot Daha of Madane Rural Municipality of Gulmi. The ambulances in Purkot Daha have been unused for two years and in Sirseni for four months, said Health Branch Chief Tirtha Panthi. Even so, government vehicles worth more than 85 million rupees are lying idle in Gulmi.
According to the District Administration Office, Gulmi, there are currently four vehicles and 38 motorcycles that need to be auctioned in the district. Assistant Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Gaire informed that since laptops, computers and other materials in the district also need to be auctioned, their auction process has progressed. Provisions regarding auction sales are made in Chapter 7 of the Financial Procedure Regulations 2064. “Our law does not allow us to start the auction process,” he said. The federal government should make a law to auction vehicles in the district.
