Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The government has agreed to form a dialogue committee to address the demands of the transport entrepreneurs who have been protesting by shutting down public transport.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and transport entrepreneurs held discussions at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday. Informing about the meeting, President of The National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs Bijaya Bahadur Swar expressed confidence that the dialogue committee would discuss and resolve the issue.

He said the Gandaki state government should be responsible for the inconvenience caused to the citizens due to the closure of public transport. He claimed that the agitation would continue till the conclusion of the talks. A negotiating team has been formed under the coordination of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, including four from the business side and seven from the government side.

He said that he has requested to sit throughout the day today to draw a conclusion and suspend the works done by the state government and create an environment for the transport entrepreneurs to withdraw the agitation.

Claiming that this was their last fight, he warned that there would be no deal. They said they were ready to rectify the shortcomings in the transport sector and demanded that an environment should be created in the transport sector in such a way that there would never be any agitation again.

Chairman Swar accused the media of discouraging investors by accusing them of being syndicates. Transport entrepreneurs have been protesting after the Gandaki state government issued regulations to operate and regulate ride-sharing.

They have been protesting against the government’s decision to bring a provision to allow two-wheeler and four-wheeler private vehicles to carry passengers on par with public transport.

They have been agitating demanding the immediate repeal of section 2 (h) of the Gandaki State Government Regulation 2082 bs published in the Gazette on May 1, 2082, in violation of Section 8 of Section 8 and Section 12 (1) of Chapter 2 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 2049.
