Kathmandu. In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, lawmakers have emphasized that the government should be sensitive to the demands of the agitating teachers. They have urged them to find a solution through dialogue and consensus, not through repression.

Speaking on a party basis during a special session of the meeting, MP Sushila Thing urged the government to be sensitive to the teachers’ agitation. She criticized the incident in which the police used water cannons and batons on the agitating teachers on Baisakh 14.

‘Injustice has been done to teachers. The government is the guardian, it is necessary to focus on solving their problems,’ said MP Thing. She suggested that teachers abandon their stance of not returning to school until a new Education Act is enacted.

MP Thakur Gaire, pointing out the need to amend the Education Act, urged them to find a solution through dialogue as the problem would not be solved by creating conflict between security personnel and teachers.

He said that the Education Bill is currently under discussion in the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee under the House of Representatives. He said that the opposition parties are equally responsible for addressing the legitimate demands of teachers.

‘It is not appropriate to run the education sector now with the Education Act enacted in Vikram Sambat 2028,’ MP Gaire said. MP Gaire said that it is necessary to systematize the education sector, which is a fundamental right granted by the constitution.

He emphasized that the government’s policies and programs should be formulated to achieve the sustainable development goals, make the decade of 2080 BS a decade of prosperity, and fulfill the expectations of social justice and development.
