‘Government is sensitive to reducing damage due to road accidents’

Morang. Chief Minister of Koshi Province Hikmat Kumar Karki has said that the government is sensitive to minimizing the possible damage caused by vehicle accidents. Inaugurating the Traffic Week-2082 jointly organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law and Nepal Police Highway Safety and Traffic Management Police Office, Itahari, Sunsari at Biratnagar today, he said the government was working to reduce accidents by equipping the traffic police with necessary policies.

Chief Minister Karki directed the State Traffic Office to make public the works to reduce the number of road accidents from July 1. He said that it would be helpful to reduce accidents if the owners of public vehicles monitor the behavior and gestures shown by the drivers during the operation of the vehicles. Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Rewati Raman Bhandari, said that awareness programmes would be launched to reduce road accidents, drug abuse and suicide as the main challenges in the province.

Chief District Officer of Morang Indra Dev Yadav, Acting Chief of The State Police Office Govinda Adhikari and Deputy Superintendent of Police santosh Shrestha of the State Traffic Police Office urged the stakeholders to reduce the loss of life and property due to vehicular accidents. As part of the week-long programme, various programmes including awareness on accident reduction will be organized in 14 districts of the state. According to the State Traffic Office, 381 people have died in 5,100 road accidents in the province till Mid-June of the current fiscal year.
