Kathmandu. Chairman of the Federation of Nepali Construction Entrepreneurs (FNCE), Ravi Singh, has said that the construction industry is in trouble. He said this while speaking at a national gathering of construction entrepreneurs close to the Congress held at the Nepali Congress Party Central Office, Sanepa on Monday.

He complained that the government has not taken any initiative to address the problems of construction entrepreneurs, saying that he had suggested to the government to amend the regulations to solve the problem, but there was no hearing on it.

He said that since the government is introducing revised regulations without consulting the entrepreneurs, it is not possible to be sure that the problems of construction entrepreneurs will be resolved. He alleged that the government has not revised the regulations after seeking the common opinion of the entrepreneurs and has had to revise them repeatedly.

He said, ‘The construction industry is in trouble. We, the construction entrepreneurs affiliated with the Nepali Congress, are currently in a difficult position to convey our problems to the government, even though we are participating in the Nepali Congress government. Despite our many efforts, the government has not addressed our problems and our public procurement act, rules, SBD and other things are not construction industry-friendly and infrastructure-friendly, so the construction industry is in dire straits. And we have the opportunity to discuss with the government after the national meeting held on Poush 27, after the honorable Prime Minister, Manaya Samapati, coordinated with the government and he has assured that the problems of the businessmen will be addressed as soon as possible.’

‘While we were meeting him on Magh 18, we are amending the Public Procurement Regulations to address our problems until Chaitra 11. In the past, when the regulations were being amended, we had a tendency to bring regulations without discussing with the stakeholders. As a result, it has been seen that the regulations brought by the government have to be amended repeatedly. Therefore, we have repeatedly requested the Honorable Prime Minister, the Minister of Urban Development, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Physical Infrastructure Construction and the Chief Secretary to amend the regulations and amend the Act in coordination with the stakeholders. “In reality, the amendment to the public regulations is coming, but we have not discussed how that amendment will address the problems of construction entrepreneurs,” he said.

Chairman Singh said that construction entrepreneurs who keep the economy moving are the carriers of the country’s prosperity. He also accused the government of encouraging cartelization by some industries.
