Muscat. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Purna Bahadur Khadka has said that the Nepali government is committed to working together with the Non-Resident Nepalis to move forward for the prosperity of the country.
Praising the contribution made by the NRN to Nepal, Deputy Prime Minister Khadka said that the Middle East Regional Conference of the NRN would be useful in solving the country’s problems. Addressing the 8th Middle East Regional Conference held in Muscat, the capital of Oman, on Wednesday, Khadka emphasized the need to work by building more trust between the government and the NRN.
He said that the government is taking the issues of the NRN seriously and has also addressed them in the policies and programs and the budget. He also informed that the Citizenship Act has been enacted as envisioned by the constitution and that work on the regulations will begin soon.
Deputy Prime Minister Khadka also claimed that the government and the entire parliament are in favor of the NRNA. Expressing the view that there has been positive progress in providing voting rights to Nepalis living abroad, he informed that the government will also bear the necessary budget. Deputy Prime Minister Khadka also urged non-resident Nepalis to use the knowledge, skills and abilities they have learned abroad for the benefit of the country.
In a program held in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of the Government of Nepal Purna Bahadur Khadka, Chairman Dr. Badri KC said that a separate ministry is now needed to look after the NRNA. “Currently, there are 110,000 members in 87 countries, and there are more than 7 million non-resident Nepalis worldwide,” he said. “We now need a separate ministry to look after the NRNA, which has taken on a large size.”
The conference is being attended by around 500 representatives from various countries, including the Middle East, Europe, the US, and Japan.
