Kathmandu. The trend of spending large amounts of government budget in May and June has continued this year as well. As a result, there is a huge pressure on the government’s payment system. According to the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General, which keeps records of government income, the budget, which does not spend much at other times, is now being spent on a large scale.
A budget of Rs 280.96 billion has been completed from the state treasury in the month of May alone. If we look at the trend of government payments, the government has spent Rs 6.31 billion on May 14 alone.
The government has spent Rs 3.78 billion on May 14 alone. According to the data, the government spent Rs 22.22 billion in a single day. The government has spent Rs 3.32 billion on June 21, Rs 2.87 billion on June 28 and Rs 8.28 billion on June 30.
It is clear that the government budget is flowing with the fall of so much expenditure in May. Questions have been raised every year on the expenditure incurred in May and June. Experts have been questioning the quality of development expenditure, especially since the season starts. Government reports have also been raising questions about the development in May-June.
In particular, from the Public Expenditure Review Commission to the High Level Economic Reform Commission, they had suggested the government to correct the trend of spending the budget towards the end of the financial year.
Overall, the government has spent Rs 1,279 billion in the current fiscal year. Out of the total budget, Rs 849 billion has been spent on current, Rs 141 billion on capital development and Rs 287 billion on financial management.
A budget of Rs 1,860 billion was presented for the current fiscal year in May 2018. Presenting the budget for the upcoming fiscal year on May 15, the government has made it clear that the target of 6 percent economic growth rate in the current fiscal year 2081/82 will not be achieved. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel had said that the country’s economic growth would be limited to 4.61 percent. According to him, the size of Nepal’s economy is expected to reach Rs 6.1 trillion in the current fiscal year.
