Jhapa. “When a woman learns a skill, not only her but her family and society become self-reliant,” said Goma Ghimire Baral. She has been running garima sewing and training center at Himalitol of Damak municipality-2 in Jhapa and has provided employment to five more women along with her.

Usually, all kinds of clothes worn by women are stitched at this center, which produces school bags, purses and other items. Goma said that there is a high demand for these materials in Damak Bazar, Ilam, Panchthar and other places. Goma, who took out a shutter at her home, has been selling dhaka’s products for Rs 50 to Rs 1,500.

Goma says that due to high market demand, sometimes the demand has to be suspended. I don’t have to be unemployed after learning sewing skills. She said that most of the women are engaged in this venture as it can be done in their own house by doing all the household work. She said that she saves rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per day by cutting expenses.

Goma, who received basic training on sewing from the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training in Ilam about 10 years ago, worked in a tailoring shop in Ilam. While working, she started a business by purchasing an old sewing machine for Rs 5,000 after receiving entrepreneurship training from home. Goma, who started her business from home by stitching clothes of a woman sister in the neighborhood, had spent four years in Ilam.

Goma moved to Damak in Jhapa from Ilam with her family in 2076 BS. Goma, who continued the skills and business she had learned with the relocation, took a 15-day dhaka training run by the ward office after seeing the good potential of bags and purses in Dhaka. She also said that she has received second-level training from the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training.

After this training, his identity was established as a sewing instructor. Now she was eligible for training in the basic level-1 training of the Council and other institutions. Goma said that it is difficult to arrange time on both sides as there is a high demand for production in different places of the district for training.

Goma shared that the subsidy on technology provided by the households from time to time to boost the business has given more energy to work. According to him, good employment opportunities can be created in the village if such grant assistance from various government agencies and various organizations is properly utilized. She has been promoting her products through local fairs, TikTok, Facebook and other social media platforms.

Goma said that the center run by her has been satisfied with the work of imparting skills to women sisters, providing them with a source of income and boosting their self-confidence. He plans to gradually increase the business as he has already registered the business of Gramant along with sewing.
