Kathmandu. Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association and Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Gems and Jewellery Federation have suspended their protest programmes till Mid-June. Addressing a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday, the Federations said they would suspend the ongoing agitation till mid-July and hold constructive programmes.
The national assembly held on June 14 has also released a four-point manifesto. The government has decided to give an ultimatum to the Government of Nepal till Mid-July 2082 to reconsider and cancel the 2 percent luxury tax imposed on gold and 13 percent VAT on diamonds and precious stones.
Speaking at the press conference, President of Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Gems and Jewellery Federation, Kisan Sunar, said that the government has decided to suspend the ongoing protests and agitation programmes till Mid-July 2082.
He warned that if their demands were not addressed by mid-July 2082, the FNJ would launch a strong movement through various thematic groups with common struggle and caution. The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has decided to take a decisive initiative to implement the policy guidelines regarding gold, silver, diamond and precious metal ornaments at the earliest.
