Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that nepal should be completely open for the purchase of gold and silver.
He was speaking at an interaction programme on ‘Impact of budget for fiscal year 2082/83 BS on consumer market supply chain’ organized by the Central Supply and Consumer Department of the Nepali Congress in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
He said that when he called the gold traders in Kathmandu, he complained that he had to make jewelry from stolen gold. Stating that he had opened gold completely even when he was the Prime Minister, he said that he should not be stopped from opening gold completely.
Stating that there would be no theft if it was fully opened, he said that middlemen, miscreants and smugglers would not be benefited. He said that people do not believe in notes but they believe in gold.
President Deuba said, “I called the gold traders of Kathmandu and asked them. They are saying that they have to make stolen gold. Why did you have to stop opening gold? I opened it first. My point is to open the gold completely. There is no theft, nothing. Why is gold stopping? It’s a bad thing. Nepalis all wear jewelry, we have many jewelry women wear, others also wear it. Jewelry is necessary. In Nepal, gold and silver are still true, no one believes in notes, believes in gold, what do you do? Gold and silver should be allowed to come to Nepal. Don’t stop. Middlemen, middlemen and smugglers benefit. I believe that gold should be fully opened. It has to be opened. ’
President Deuba stressed the need of holding extensive discussions to curb corruption and focus on reducing corruption. At present, traders in Nepal can import up to 20 kg of gold per day.
