Kathmandu. Global partnerships are essential to mitigate the impacts of climate change, the leaders said. Delegates representing the country at the Sagarmatha Sambad programme, which began on Friday, stressed the need for a global partnership to mitigate the impact of climate change.
They have expressed dissatisfaction over the issue of mountains being overshadowed in the discussions on issues related to climate change. Speaking during the Sagarmatha Dialogue, speakers stressed the need for a debate on climate change to cover issues ranging from mountains to oceans.
Speaking at a press conference after the inaugural session, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai thanked Nepal for playing a leading role in raising the issue of mountains in the global climate dialogue and discussion.
He said that 19 speeches have been presented so far during the Sagarmatha Dialogue. Representatives of 13 countries and representatives of international and regional organizations, including the United Nations, have expressed their views.
Now two parallel sessions will be conducted and then the Kathmandu Declaration will be issued.
“This is the first Sagarmatha Sambad programme with the objective that Nepal should play a leading role in raising the issue of mountains in the world climate dialogue and discussion as it has been raising the issue of mountains a little less in the discussions and talks related to climate change in the world,” he said. The inaugural session has been successfully concluded. There have been 19 statements. Representatives of 13 countries have made their statements, while representatives of international and regional organizations, including the United Nations, have expressed their views. We now have two parallel sessions for three days. We will issue the Kathmandu Declaration. In the days to come, we are issuing the Kathmandu Declaration on how Nepal will take the lead on the issue of mountains and which path it will take and which way the world wants to move the climate discussion. The issue of climate change cannot be solved by one country. It requires partnerships from all countries of the region and the world. The one who is doing more pollution should contribute more. ’
He said world leaders have drawn the world’s attention to the fact that the impact of climate change cannot be solved by the efforts of one country alone.
