‘Global Money Week 2025’ launched in collaboration with Nepal Rastra Bank, aims to increase financial awareness among youth

Kathmandu. With the slogan ‘Think Before You Follow Wise Money Tomorrow’, ‘Global Money Week-2025’ has started today. This is the 13th edition of this global campaign on financial literacy, celebrated every year in the month of March.

Nepal Rastra Bank has organized the inaugural program in collaboration with the Nepal Insurance Authority, Nepal Securities Board and the Department of Cooperatives. The program, which was attended by about 600 students from various schools in Kathmandu, was inaugurated by Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.

At the inauguration ceremony, Governor Adhikari highlighted the importance of financial literacy and said that appropriate financial services should be selected based on needs.

He emphasized that decisions regarding savings and loans should be made with awareness as the products of banks and financial institutions vary. Citing the increase in digital financial transactions, he urged caution while conducting online transactions.

Various awareness programs will be conducted across the country under Global Money Week. With the aim of increasing public awareness about banking, insurance, securities market and cooperative services, student interaction, financial literacy quiz competition, broadcasting of audio-visual materials, interviews and observation programs of financial service providers will be organized.

In the second session of the program, a panel discussion was organized between officials of Nepal Rastra Bank, Nepal Securities Board, Nepal Insurance Authority, Department of Cooperatives and Bankers Association and students.

The discussion included Kiran Pandit, Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank, Dr. Nawaraj Adhikari, Sushildev Subedi of the Insurance Authority, Raghunath Mahat, Acting Registrar of the Cooperative Department, and Santosh Koirala, President of the Nepal Bankers Association, informed the students about the scope of work of their organizations. They also answered the students’ queries.

This campaign, which will be conducted till Chaitra 10 in coordination with Nepal Rastra Bank, aims to promote financial literacy, especially among teenagers and youth.

Various financial institutions will also conduct awareness-raising programs on their behalf.
