Kathmandu. Global IME Bank Limited’s “Global IME AI/ML Hackathon” program on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) has been completed.
The program, which was held under the chief guestship of Nepal Rastra Bank Deputy Governor Bam Bahadur Mishra, was attended by the bank’s CEO, Deputy CEO and other senior managers, as well as representatives of various organizations.
The bank has conducted this competition for the development of potential innovative technology-based banking services targeting students, startups, developers, data scientists and researchers interested in technology. 21 teams were selected for online paper presentations in this competition. The competing teams participated in various locations including Kathmandu, Mahendranagar, Pokhara, Birgunj, Kavre, Participants from Dharan.
Among the participating teams, Team Calculus has won the first prize of Rs. 100,000. In addition, WDK, Larke Pass, Team Janakpur, and Fradex teams have been awarded the second, third, fourth, and fifth prizes respectively. The second-placed team WDK received Rs. 75,000, the third-placed Larke Pass received Rs. 50,000, and the fourth-placed team Janakpur and Team Fradex received Rs. 15,000 each. In addition, the bank has awarded Digibits with a prize of Rs 15,000 under the Best Presentation category.
The chief guest of the event, Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Bam Bahadur Mishra, handed over the prize money to the winning teams of the competition.
Deputy Governor Bam Bahadur Mishra thanked the organizer, Global IME Bank, for conducting the first-ever Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) hackathon in Nepal. Deputy Governor Mishra informed that Nepal Rastra Bank is confident that such competitions will provide opportunities to youth and students and will make the use of latest technology in the bank’s services and facilities more effective and expand access to services.
At the program, Surendra Raj Regmi, Chief Executive Officer of the bank, informed that the bank is confident that this hackathon will help in identifying potential services in digital banking and solving its challenges, as well as helping in the development of latest services. The bank also informed that it will provide an opportunity to collaborate with the best teams in this competition.
The bank is committed to promoting technology-friendly financial services and believes that this hackathon will play an important role in encouraging innovative ideas to make digital banking services more effective.
The competitors participating in the competition presented their ideas focusing on various topics specified by the bank. Various teams had applied through the bank’s website to participate in the competition. This hackathon competition was conducted in two phases. Under which, coding was conducted in the first phase and onsite hackathon was conducted in the second phase.
Global IME Bank is the bank honored as the best bank in Nepal in two categories under Global Finance’s Best Bank Award 2024 and Euro Money Award for Excellence 2024.
