Gandaki. Transport entrepreneurs have protested against the Gandaki state government’s decision to legalise the ‘ride-sharing’ company. Addressing a press conference in Pokhara on Wednesday, the Public Transport Protection Struggle Committee said the regulations should be scrapped.
The state government approved the ride-sharing (regulation and management) regulations and published them in the state gazette on May 15. Coordinator of the struggle committee Kedar Prasad Poudel said public transport services would be suspended in Gandaki state from Friday if the state government did not withdraw the ride-sharing regulations.
The state government has issued regulations to give legitimacy to ride-sharing companies based on the Supreme Court’s decision. The Supreme Court had ordered the ride-sharing company to make legal provisions linking it with fundamental rights like consumer rights, labour and employment.
However, transport entrepreneurs have been opposing ride-sharing saying that vehicles with red number plates will not be allowed to carry passengers in violation of the Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act, 2049 BS.
