Gandaki. The Gandaki state government has again called upon the agitating transport entrepreneurs to come for talks. At a press conference today, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management called for talks to find a way out after discussing the demands of the transport entrepreneurs.
Transport entrepreneurs, who had closed public transport in protest against the legalization of ride-sharing, were invited to the talks on Wednesday, but they did not come to the talks. A five-member talks team has already been formed under the coordination of the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport to hold discussions with the transport entrepreneurs.
State Secretary and Coordinator of the Dialogue Committee, Engineer Kamal Kumar Adhikari, said that the state government was always ready to hold an open discussion in this regard in case any party is affected by the law issued by the state government. Stating that the state government was confident that such problems would be resolved through discussions, he urged them to postpone the ongoing strike programmes and come to talks.
Earlier, eight organizations including National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs, Nepal Transport Independent Workers Association, Nepal Transport Workers Association, All Nepal Transport Workers Association, Central Federation of Public Transport and Unified Trade Union Federation Gandaki jointly made public the 17-point charter of demands at a press conference.
The demands include scrapping of the provision of allowing private vehicles to carry passengers on par with public vehicles, removing the life limit of public vehicles and not legalising ride-sharing services. The people of Gandaki state have been facing problems since May 15 due to the closure of public transport.
